"The gods of the valley are not the gods of the hills, and you shall understand it"...Ethan Allen

"We in this room are all men who believe that actions speak louder then words. If I can impart anything from my life as a soldier it is this: There are only two types of warrior in this world. Those that serve tyrants and those that serve free men. I have chosen to serve free men, and if we as warriors serve free men, we must love freedom more than we love our own lives. It is a simple philosophy but one that has served me well in life."

Watch this

from Oathkeepers

"Again, this is unconfirmed, and we are working on confirming it. Please keep that in mind. But this is certainly the kind of mass, whole-unit stand-down that may well become necessary, especially in light of the treason of the US Senate, which voted 93-7 to authorize military detention and trial of U.S. citizens -- claiming the power to apply the laws of war to the American people in the same way as they are used on a conquered, enemy population, like Iraq or Afghanistan. While National Guard units can, and have been used for riot control without violating their oath, we suspect that this survey was asking them about whether they would do something far worse than just keep the peace during riots. We will do our best to get to the bottom of this, and provide all details once confirmed

If accurate, this is reminiscent of the stand-down during Katrina by SSGT Joshua May’s Utah National Guard Unit, where the whole unit let their commander know, in a peremptory refusal, that they would not participate in any gun confiscation.

"I just left both people involved with the incident that took place in the last few days. The soldiers do not want to pursue this matter any further, in any way shape or form. I was advised that the situation is being dealt with in house and there will be internal investigations into the conduct of certain ‘officers’ who started the poll and ordered certain persons held. The person allegedly being held was only there for a couple of hours. No punishment will be handed down to any of the soldiers involved. I cannot give any further information as to names dates reasons units or places. This is in respect to my friends here. If this upsets anyone I am sorry but this is the way the soldiers want it. You have my deepest apology and I truly wish I had never spoken about any of this with my friends here on or FB. I will be posting no more information of this type due to the repercussions which could come from this."

Buppert’s Law Relearned

from Zero Gov

Village Praxis Series: T.E. Lawrence and the Next American Revolution (Part II) by Bill Buppert

"Buppert’s Law of Topography dictates that most mountainous terrain held by people who are savvy riflemen cannot be militarily defeated whether it be the Chechens, Swiss or Afghans. This may be one reason why the Appalachians in the US were not fully tamed until about the 1930s. One may find a few historical instances where that may not be true but then there are dozens of other examples that prove it out."

Those that forget the past

...Get the dirt nap first.

"Think about how much more sophisticated the feeling-manipulation machine is today.

Then think about how that feeling-manipulation machine will be used against those who will not submit to the whims of the Governing Class.

The best hope?

Those on Team Freedom have learned the lessons, no matter how hard, from the kulaks and other despised minorities in the past who have been squashed.

Take advantage of that historic bloodshed.

Vow to resist your own degradation and elimination.

Pay attention.

Dr. Thomas Young wrote to Adams reporting that, upon the news that the British had seized a supply of colonial gunpowder from Charlestown, tens of thousands of colonists had taken up arms and marched in that direction, from as far away as Connecticut. Samuel Adams replied to him, "I have written to our friends to provide themselves without delay with Arms & Ammunition, get well instructed in the military Art, embody themselves & prepare a complete set of rules that they may be ready in Case they are called to defend themselves against the violent attacks of Despotism." -- Samuel Adams

Relearned lessons

from Zero Gov

Village Praxis Series: T.E. Lawrence and the Next American Revolution (Part I) by Bill Buppert

"Whether the central bankers like it or not, the EU fiat currency will collapse in the next six to twelve months and take the dollar with it. This will lead to the hardest times America has known since the War of Northern Aggression tore the continent asunder in the nineteenth century. Hard times will be a subtle way to describe it. The US government will react in the same barbaric fashion it does in every crisis: it will wage war abroad and on its own citizens and systematically strangle every notion of freedom and liberty remaining across the fruited plain. It will clothe all of these noxious behaviors in the most patriotic tones and cries of threats to national security will scare the woolen-clad subjects into paroxysms of bleating and begging for coddling and protection from their masters. There will be conflict on American soil again and the guerrilla style of conflict will soon be the only means of opposition for the few who fight for the right to be left alone. However one anticipates your personal involvement in the emerging crisis, Lawrence provides the basic building blocks for seeing how that fight may be conducted.

I am a guest lecturer in Irregular Warfare and a number of readers have requested that I addressed this subject so I am finally getting around to it. I will address the top ten tactical/operational/campaign books and manuals one should have in your library to illuminate the best and worst practices in insurgency and guerrilla warfare in Part II of this essay.

Nine-tenths of tactics are certain, and taught in books: but the irrational tenth is like the kingfisher flashing across the pool, and that is the test of generals.
- T. E. Lawrence"

Vietnamese General Giap (who vanquished both the French and the Americans) was asked who his greatest influence was in conducting guerrilla campaigns in Vietnam in an interview with (soon to be infamous) French General Salan in 1946: “My fighting gospel is TE Lawrence’s Seven Pillars of Wisdom. I am never without it.”

Don't do it like dot gov.

This is why.

You most likely will not be mech or airmobile infantry. So don't pack like it. Your more like a woodsman/ Ranger company of old. That means is a survivalist mix of equipment in your gear. I would deploy that type of equipment in a day/three day pack, and keep your LBE/LBV conflict oriented.

Here is some older, but still relevant information. Follow the series 1 and 2 thru the You Tube links..

Alarm and Muster

from TL in Exile

The Call For A Summit

Posted Verbatim;

As loudly as I can I am calling for a patriot summit, a convention of sorts of those dedicated to liberty. I don't mean those who won't do a thing about it, but those who, given the right circumstances will give up everything they own to secure liberty to themselves and their posterity.

Our inaction is handing the field to our opponents, to the enemies of liberty. Kerodin might suggest direct action, whereas others might suggest indirect action, the fact is: there is very little action of any sort.

Opponents of a patriot summit will argue that getting us all together in one place will give the feds an edge. Let me tell you as someone who organized an event in DC, they already have my number. They know who I am and many of us in the liberty movement. Don't fool yourselves, you are not unknown. When you step out and start a blog, you are known. You may not be tracked and followed as I have been, but you are known, so stop worrying about it. For all of the provocative things I have written, I have only been harassed on a low level, i.e. followed, harassed by the IRS, etc. An old saying I heard from the guys I knew in Vietnam was this: "They can kill you, but they can't eat you." Meaning, there's only so much they can do to you.

If you are not ready to give your life and treasure to the pursuit of liberty, you are not sufficiently dedicated to the principle anyway. I have put both on the line and will do so again and again until we beat back the beast of totalitarianism, or die trying.

Right now, there needs to be a show of strength if to no one but ourselves. If there are others who will stand up for liberty, then lets get together and make a statement. Let us gather. Second Amendment, Fourth Amendment and First Amendment proponents might not agree on everything, but they should at least agree to support the Bill of Rights and the importance of re-stating our demands that these rights be respected.

The difference between us and the Tea Party is that it should be known that defense of these rights includes a degree of insurrection, if necessary. Let us not fool ourselves or our communistic/socialistic enemies. If it is a fight that is coming, all we know right now is that each of us is alone, isolated and effectively neutralized. Our gathering to make the points we need to make could spark a consolidation of sentiment. It could motivate those who now sit idle.

I have no doubt that there are those who are willing to do any number of things to support the liberty movement, but it cannot begin without a beginning. A patriot summit would be that beginning. We can accept Tea Party members, but they must understand that this is not a Tea Party gathering, this is something a bit more determined, a bit more radical, perhaps a lot more radical. We must have a beginning to the action part of the movement.

Date and location. Lets start there. If you are a spook and live only on the invisible web, tucked away in the protection of anonymity, you can still show up. You can read the details as they emerge, but if you think fighting the enemies of liberty can be done without exposing yourself to fire, you are mistaken. All this has done so far is to leave those willing to brave the retribution of the feds to take the heat alone.

We need to emerge as a separate force from the Tea Party, but we must forge an alliance. There is no political clout without the ability to counter violence done to the political arm. We must be that force for good.

That's my pitch. I will repeat it often. It is important.

Happy Thanksgiving Chesty, wherever you are

"Remember, you are the 1st Marines! Not all the Communists in Hell (Chicago) can overrun you!"

from TownHall

A Thanksgiving Sacrifice

"...Remember those Americans who, 60 years ago, spent Thanksgiving fighting at the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. It was a vicious, brutal battle and one of the Marine Corps’ finest hours.

By Thanksgiving of 1950, X Corps (a joint force composed of American Army and UN troops), had advanced along with the 1st Marine Division deep into North Korea, almost to the Yalu River. But in an attack that caught the Americans by surprise, Chinese troops poured across the border and attacked in almost overwhelming waves.

Many units of X Corps disintegrated under the relentless attacks. The Marines, under the command of General Oliver Smith and Marine Corps legend Colonel Chesty Puller, along with elements of the 7th Infantry Division and the British Royal Marines, fought a rear guard action throughout a slow retreat from Chosin. Of course, Smith famously declared, “Gentlemen, we are not retreating. We are merely attacking in another direction.” And he was correct. As a military historian later observed, you can’t retreat when you are completely surrounded.

The Marines and their brethren fought against almost overwhelming odds. They were outnumbered five to one. The conditions were atrocious. Temperatures plunged to 30-, then 40- degrees below zero. Snow and ice coated them and their weapons. Sometimes the blizzard conditions made it impossible to see more than a few yards. Weapons and blood plasma froze. Medics carried morphine ampoules in their mouths to keep them warm. Trucks and jeeps had to be kept running constantly because it was almost impossible to get them started again.

From the hills and mountains surrounding the narrow roads, the Chinese rained machine gun fire and mortar shells on the Marines. Leatherneck battalions had to leapfrog each other as they moved south, fighting“yard by bitterly contested yard” to clear the heights commanding the road in front of them. Dedicated pilots from Marine Air Wings and Navy and Air Force units flew interdiction missions when the weather allowed. But for the most part, it was constant close quarter fighting--grenades, small arms and blades. The Marines won those fights.

At one point, the Marine advance halted. For a third time, the Chinese had destroyed a bridge over a gorge in the Funchlin Pass—this time, beyond repair. Air Force C-119’s parachuted eight bridge sections into the Marine perimeter. Six were recovered undamaged, allowing the Marines and an Army engineering unit to bridge the gorge.

Although the Chinese inflicted severe casualties, they could not break the Marine companies. As Max Hastings wrote in his history of the Korean War, “It is a tribute to the quality of units reconstituted only three months earlier, heavily manned by [Marine] reservists, that they mounted so dogged a defense under the most appalling conditions.”

Unlike many of the retreating American Army forces that wanted to simply abandon their heavy equipment and artillery, the Marines doggedly refused to leave anything behind. General Smith was adamant about conducting “an orderly and honorable withdrawal.” As they fought their way out of the mountains to the Korean coast, the Marines brought their equipment, their wounded, and their dead.

When they reached “Hellfire Valley” (between Hagau and Koto-ri), the situation looked impossible. Chesty Puller was unfazed. He climbed up on a ration box and told his men: “I don’t give a good goddamn how many Chinese laundrymen there are between us and Hungnam. There aren’t enough in the world to stop a Marine regiment going where it wants to go! Christ in His mercy will see us through.” Christ, the Marines’ raw courage and dogged determination, and their lead-from-the-front officers saw them through.

Puller later told reporters, “Remember when you write, this was no retreat. All that happened was we found more Chinese behind us than in front of us. So we about-faced and attacked.”

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Non Sibi Sed Patriae

The reason in being

from Sipsey Street Irregulars

Between the rattlesnake's tail and its fangs. The crisis of legitimacy, the dearth of citizenship, the spectre of civil war and moral responsibility.

"The answer is to found in the link between the rattlesnake's tail and its fangs. Ben Franklin was right. The rattlesnake is, within its world, the most moral of creatures. It never strikes without provocation or, importantly, without warning.

Without the tail, the fangs are mere instruments of unexpected violence and aggression. Without the fangs, the tail would be an impotent joke, eminently ignorable by the snake's enemies.

For collectivists more than anyone understand the efficacy and application of force. Louis XIV of France had "Ultima Ratio Regum" ("last argument of kings") cast upon his cannon. Stalin, when informed that the Pope didn't approve of the Soviet occupation of Trieste, cynically observed, "The Pope? The Pope? How many divisions does HE have?"

And while we are not reptiles but human beings, the same relationship between rattle and fangs applies to us. For our struggle is first and foremost one of moral responsibility, lest we become the evil we say we fight. As we would not permit any more free Wacos or Katrinas, we cannot allow ourselves the bloody, self-discrediting folly of a Fort Sumter or an Oklahoma City bombing. Morally, our tail must be loud and insistent, even as our fangs must be hidden but sharp. History shows that only with both can there be a moral yet credible deterrent to tyranny.

As to the rattle, we must fight the political fight, including, perhaps especially, the Gunwalker scandal, even if we believe that such things are failing rear guard actions doomed to ultimate failure. Such efforts highlight the failure of political legitimacy of the current regime by holding in sharp contrast their corrupt and deadly actions against the backdrop of the law and the constitution that they swore to uphold.

As to the fangs, such campaigns also buy time for the rest of us to prepare for the ghastly conflict that awaits the time if and when "the center does not hold." We must, then, be hopeful but realistic, patient but principled, always willing to argue our case until the last moment but yet prepared to resort to arms when we are compelled to use countervailing force against those who would, out of their so-called "good intentions," punish us for our peaceful resistance with state violence.

Those of us on the rattle end of this business can only hope that those responsible for the fangs -- the armed citizenry -- are doing their part to take advantage of the time bought thereby. In any case, it must be done, if we are to stand later before history and our own Maker and say that we were true to His commands and to Locke's thesis of the proper relationship between the free citizen and his government.

"Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any farther obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence." -John Locke

The "Last argument of Kings" has been tried before in this country and defeated by free armed citizens determined to maintain their liberties but who waited, impatiently perhaps, until the fight was brought to them. And then they finished it.

The question is, can we do it again?"

This is the reason for Non Sibi Sed Patriae. Not to call for the waging of war on anyone, but to help those people who take their citizenship seriously enough to step up and learn a facet of protecting their birthright form those who would make them slaves.

The key phrase here is...

"Ben Franklin was right. The rattlesnake is, within its world, the most moral of creatures. It never strikes without provocation or, importantly, without warning.

Without the tail, the fangs are mere instruments of unexpected violence and aggression. Without the fangs, the tail would be an impotent joke, eminently ignorable by the snake's enemies."

Said here in brevity;

Credible deterrence is a tactic. The bedrock of our military, and of our Citizenship.

The bully boys will start the fight. There is nothing more American than having the skill sets to finish it.

"Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves are its only safe depositories."--Thomas Jefferson

Western Rifle Shooters adds the frosting on the frightful cake;

Vanderboegh: More On The Crisis Of Legitimacy, Civil War, And Resistance

"But for every Vermont-carry bill passed in the statehouses, there have been major strides forward for Team Tyranny, be they to expand domestic law enforcement capacity, to increase Americans’ clamoring dependence on the FedGov’s teat, or to tie America’s fate inextricably to the corrupt European elites from whom the Founders escaped temporarily in 1781.

Worse still than OpFor’s sustained momentum is the terribly disproportionate force ratios mustering for the coming storm.

Team Tyranny?

Several hundred thousand personnel (including many recently-trained-and-blooded young military veterans), with unlimited beans, unlimited bullets, First World evac/trauma/rehabilitation care, surveillance and kinetic toys all across the X, Y, and Z axes, the stupefied support of at least half of the American population, and the financial resources of the entire Western elite – shot through with malignancy as that may be.

A few thousand old men (many of whom unable to quick-march for five miles with a light pack and rifle) carrying semiautomatic light weapons and sidearms, with barely enough beans/bullets/bandaids to sustain a fire team or two for a week or two, very little technology of any kind, no external foreign support, no financial resources, and zero air/space assets.

Worst of all?

No coherent plan whatsoever to engage, defeat, and destroy the statists, their minions, and their beneficiaries."

Concerned American paints less than a rosy picture. But WIN is built on correct assessments, and the ability to work your solutions within them.

Credible deterrence is built one human at a time. What have you done to build that credibility lately?? In yourself? In others?
